Mission Statement: To eliminate poverty by empowering families and building responsive
communities in Southwest Minnesota.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
TRANSPORTATION
Volunteer Drivers Needed!
Volunteers are needed to help provide transportation for area residents to local and out of area destinations.
Dispatchers will assign trips to volunteers based on availability and interest to drive to certain locations.
Trip requests range from local communities to locations out of the area such as the Twin Cities, Sioux Falls, SD,
Willmar or Mankato, etc. Volunteers drive their own cars and are reimbursed mileage.
Mileage reimbursements are not considered taxable income, plus no additional insurance is
required to serve as a volunteer driver. You can choose where and when you want to drive. If you like meeting people
and like to drive, and if you have a safe operating vehicle and a good driving record, this is a great volunteer experience.

BIG BUDDIES
Big Buddies of Western Community Action is a program that brings the magic of mentoring into the lives of boys and
girls ages 5-17. Caring community volunteers (ages 16 and older) meet weekly with their Little Buddies, sharing everyday
activities while building extraordinary friendships. Our children deserve positive relationships with caring role models who
will take the time to support, inspire and guide them toward a brighter future. All Big Buddies begin with an application,
a personal interview, and since they work with children, they need background checks and references. Big Buddies can
live anywhere, but the Little Buddies live in Cottonwood, Jackson, Lyon, and Redwood Counties.
If you are interested in learning more about becoming a Big or Little Buddy, please contact Big Buddies of Western
Community Action at 537-1416, 1-800-658-2448 or e-mail jim.smalley@wcainc.org
COMMUNITY and FAMILY SUPPORT
Community and Family Support has volunteer opportunities at the food shelf in Marshall and Tracy. We also have volunteer opportunities at our
clothing centers in Redwood Falls and Storden. If you want to support and mentor a family to get out of poverty, you
need to volunteer for Circles of Support. Contact gregory.warner@wcainc.org or
angela.larson@wcainc.org for more details. It is an extremely rewarding experiance
for all involved. Be a part of this new high impact stratgy for eliminating poverty!
Western Community Action is also seeking volunteers for our Free Tax Preparation Clinics that will be held
in Marshall from February-Mid April. Volunteer positions include Individual Tax Preparers, Reviewers, Tax Site Hosts,
and Benefits Screeners. Experience is not necessary; you only need the desire to learn and the ability to give some
time to assist low-income families in this great service to the community!
