About Community Transit!
The Community Transit Program of Western Community Action provides public transportation services for residents of Lincoln, Lyon, Redwood, Cottonwood and Jackson Counties. This service has expanded over the past 28 years to include centralized dispatching in Marshall and Jackson Dispatch Offices so each ride request can be efficiently coordinated and scheduled on a Community Transit bus or with a volunteer driver who drives their own personal vehicle.
A total of 20 lift accessible buses operate within in the City of Marshall and throughout Lyon, Redwood and Jackson
counties. In addition nearly 100 volunteer drivers are available in all five counties to provide rides locally, when transit buses are not available, and to out of area locations such as Willmar, Mankato, Rochester, Worthington, the Metro area and Sioux Falls, SD. When individuals, family members, or service providers need transportation, every effort is made by staff to schedule the ride or find other transportation options.
The Community Transit Program takes pride in celebrating many successful projects that have improved transportation services for people and communities throughout our project area. In 2009, a total of 138,212 passenger trips were provided to over 3,500 individuals with over 1.1 million miles reported. In addition to increasing the number of rides from previous years, the Community Transit Program and several community partners worked to create a fixed route bus route service in the City of Marshall to compliment the dial-a-ride services that were operating at capacity. The highlight of 2009 was settling into our newly constructed Community Transit Dispatch & Bus Center in Marshall.
The Community Transit Program is committed to “Connecting People and Communities” and is available for all people who want or need a ride. Call for more information about transportation services in your area or serving as a volunteer.
